Missions
Endwell United Methodist
Church believes that one of our primary tasks is to send persons
into the world to live as disciples of Jesus Christ by serving
others. |
|

The Lord's Table serves
a free hot meal. |
We serve "The Lord's
Table" each Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship
Hall. All persons are invited to satisfy their physical or spiritual
hunger. |
National & Worldwide
Mission
|
|
Our church participates in
the worldwide ministry of the United
Methodist Church
and the Wyoming
Conference with
full payment of our apportionments. We also receive the six Special
Sunday offerings
of our denomination to support specific ministries beyond our
church. |
|
|
Recently, we joined "A Hand to Liberians
Project" which
distributes clothing, medications and other items to Liberian
refugees. Each year, we receive an offering for "Blanket
Sunday" of
Church World Servi ce. |
|
We participate in the Haiti
Partnership of the Wyoming Conference. Sally Vazquez went to Haiti in February 1999
and taught English to Haitians. Previously, several members worked
as Volunteers-In-Mission and built a six-room addition to the
Good Samaritan Center for Homeless Women in Jeremie and worked
at the Methodist Medical Center in Gebo. Our church paid for
a roof on an elementary school in a mountainous region of Haiti.
Recently, we prepared "school
bags" for
Haitian children. |
Local Ministry & Mission
We sponsor the Endwell
Nursery School which meets in the education building. We support
other local ministries that help children and families, including
Sky Lake in Windsor, N.Y., Mom's House in Endicott, SOS Shelter
in Endicott, the Children's Home of Wyoming Conference, Samaritan
Counseling Center in Endicott, Broome County Council of Churches
and its Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW). Each year
at Thanksgiving, our members fill grocery bags with non-perishable
food for CHOW. With our Advent and Lent coin folders, we support
the Broome County Prison Ministry of Rev. Phil Singer, chaplain,
who is the son of our pastor emeritus, Rev. Edgar Singer. We
assisted five refugee families to settle in our area -- Markovic
from Hungry, Samphong from Cambodia, Shalnev from Ukraine, and
Tunovic and Muhovic from Bosnia. |

Lay persons are trained
as "Friendly Visitors" who are assigned to visit nursing
home and homebound members. On World Communion Sunday, the "visitors"
distribute the consecrated elements to persons who are unable
to attend worship, fulfilling Christ's invitation for all to
gather at The Lord's Table. |

United Methodist Women
support the Women's
Division of the Board of Global Ministries through their annual mission pledge. UMW sponsors
many activities: Father and Son Brunch, Christmas Tea, Mother
and Daughter Banquet, Spring and Fall Rummage and Bake Sales,
Spring Retreat, and a Fall Bazaar. The women award a monetary
scholarship each year to a high school student in honor of former
pastor, Rev. Jose Valencia, and give full scholarships to two
children who attend the Endwell
Nursery School. |
